Our mission is to increase the quantity, quality and traceability of aquaculture macroalgae. By doing so, Deep Coast will help unlock the potential of this amazing crop for food, feed, agriculture, cosmetics, biotech, carbon sequestration and other novel applications. The time is ripe to start increasing the number and size of seaweed farms in Europe.
Climate action with a smorgasbord of co-benefits
Seaweed isn’t just one of the most efficient photosynthetic organisms on the planet, trapping vast amounts of carbon as it quickly grows. It also absorbs lots of excess nutrients from the water and incorporates them into useful, complex molecules as it matures. We can make use of this by turning seaweed into delicious food and other amazing products, all while drawing down carbon from the atmosphere, de-acidifying the oceans, increasing biodiversity and creating local jobs in coastal communities - often ones that are losing their livelihoods due to overfishing.
Connecting the dots for growth
Deep Coast connects seaweed farmers, customers, suppliers, governments and financiers to enable macroalgae aquaculture projects. Seaweed products are already displacing carbon-intensive products while also being more healthful. We aim to bring this to a climate-relevant scale, eventually going above and beyond carbon offsetting and deploying seaweed for carbon removal.
